Mastery is only achieved by a 10.000 h work rule?
How much truth there is to this idea that we need to have thousands of hours of repetitive actions to become Master at our craft?
Often this type of thinking leads easily towards Perfectionism.
If you are a person who identifies him/herself as someone who needs to have everything at 10/10 or the A+ Syndrome then this is for you!
In Physical level this repetitive behavior holds some truth to it as becoming a professional athlete, world class artist or painter most definitely needs a lot of skill acquisition!
The Mastery that is below this physical Element though is the White belt Mentality, the growth Mindset and willingness to put ourselves into that learners seat day after day!
Intense curiosity to learn more about our surroundings as well as about ourselves is the key to this Growth. I believe that the true Mastery starts with this mindset that we never truly arrive to our destination.
Having the Resiliency to pursue goals, yet having emotional Non-attachment to the outcomes. And our ability to get up after we fall to find the new direction with more Clarity!
I truly believe that one the biggest ambitions towards Peak Performance is to pursue Mastery in everything that we do!
Mastery is in the endlessness of the journey that has no destination!
Purpose of Mastery is in our Ability to Grow and Learn. This makes Mastery the polar opposite of Perfectionism. All the Masters of our ages have all truly mastered the skill of being a student.
Next time you are looking for perfection, what if you asked yourself how can I pursue Mastery instead? Am I in the learner’s seat?
