Mastery or Perfectionism?

In Clarity, Lifestyle, Peak Performance by Tuomo VauhkonenLeave a Comment

Mastery is only achieved by a 10.000 h work rule?

How much truth there is to this idea that we need to have thousands of hours of repetitive actions to become Master at our craft?

⁣Often this type of thinking leads easily towards Perfectionism.

If you are a person who identifies him/herself as someone who needs to have everything at 10/10 or the A+ Syndrome then this is for you!⁣

In Physical level this repetitive behavior holds some truth to it as becoming a professional athlete, world class artist or painter most definitely needs a lot of skill acquisition!⁣

The Mastery that is below this physical Element though is the White belt Mentality, the growth Mindset and willingness to put ourselves into that learners seat day after day!⁣

Intense curiosity to learn more about our surroundings as well as about ourselves is the key to this Growth.⁣ I believe that the true Mastery starts with this mindset that we never truly arrive to our destination.

Having the Resiliency to pursue goals, yet having emotional Non-attachment to the outcomes. And our ability to get up after we fall to find the new direction with more Clarity!

I truly believe that one the biggest ambitions towards Peak Performance is to pursue Mastery in everything that we do!⁣

Mastery is in the endlessness of the journey that has no destination!⁣

Purpose of Mastery is in our Ability to Grow and Learn. This makes Mastery the polar opposite of Perfectionism. ⁣All the Masters of our ages have all truly mastered the skill of being a student.⁣

Next time you are looking for perfection, what if you asked yourself how can I pursue Mastery instead? Am I in the learner’s seat?
